The book that managed to make me laugh and think was the book, The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer.  This book is both entertaining and smart and shows off Chaucers abundant supply of wit. 

This book centers around a motley crew of travelers that make a bet, the one who tells the most entertaining tale gets a feast at the cost of the others. 

This work though is incomplete.  Before this book was completed, Chaucer died and was unable to finish the tales.  Despite being only half a classic, The Tales makes up for its shortness with sheer wit.  The books characters all come from different backgrounds and each have their own personalities making all of their stories entertaining in their own ways.  Wether it be the vulgarness of the Miller or the honesty of the Knight.  This story will surely entertain.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

This book is about the changes someone must make as they go from childhood to adulthood. The main character is a girl name Beatrice who lies in a utopian society.  This society is made up of four "factions":  Dauntless, Candor, Abnegation, and Amity.  The people are born into these factions, but when they turn sixteen they may test into another faction.

Beatrice has turned sixteen and will soon take the test. What happens next will blow the mind and embody the phrase "one choice can transform you."

This book is for teens, as the violent deaths and romance are a bit much for younger kids.  Though it has some romance, it mostly has to do with dare-devil and near suicidal stunts, such as jumping off a building without a bungee cord.  If a person is looking for a book that has good action scenes and the slight hit of criticism of our own human situation, you will like this book.

"Surrender" by Sonya Hartnett.

This book is about a man with a medical condition reflecting on his short twenty years of life. This man's name is Gabriel though as a boy his real name was Anwell. One of his first reflections was how he got his nickname of Gabriel. Gabriel is the younger son of his two parents, his mother is a serious women who does not like disobedience and his father escapes into his workshop when his wife is frustrated. Gabriel's older brother Ferdinand has a mental disease. Gabriel describes Ferdinand's mind by saying "His mind has not developed more than the cakey mush it was at his birth." The result is that Ferdinand is extremely weak and acts like a baby.

After a severe accident, Gabriel accidentally kills his brother who he loved very much. After this event Gabriel wanted to become pure. He meets a boy named Finnigan and they make a pact, Gabriel will only do good and Finnigan the bad. After a series of mysterious arsons, Gabriel falls in love with a girl from his school. This reawakens the importance of the two boys pact. After many dark turns and a stunning conclusion you will wonder were the events real or the hallucinations of a desperate boy.
