Between Shades of Gray by Ruta
Sepetys
Lina and her family, who lived in Lithuania, are one day taken in cattle cars by the NVKD to Siberia. During this time, Joseph Stalin and Hitler have signed the non-aggression pact, and Stalin has gained control of the Baltic States. Lina’s family, excluding her dad, are transported to work in labor camps.
This book definitely served its purpose and even though it is fiction, it is based upon real events. I respect how the author researched in detail what the victims went through and I felt what some of the their lives were like and what they had to endure. I greatly admired the narrator because her actions throughout the book were human-like to the point where she seemed real.
This book also covered that Joseph Stalin, too, did kill millions of people during his reign. Between Shades of Gray really plays on your emotions and I highly recommend this to the people who are interested with Holocaust stories.
