PAM MUNOZ RYAN DAY will include the College Heights Elementary School Mariachi Players at 1:30 p.m. 

Our program kicks off at 2 p.m. with Mayor Hall proclaming it Pam Munoz Ryan Day in Bakersfield.  After a few guest speakers who will talk about Pam's Bakersfield roots and her nationwide literary contribution, Pam will say a few works.  Throw in a short play based on one of Pam's Books courtsey of The Empty Space Theater, a small reception, and a book signing, and you've got a memorable day for all.

We are pleased to announce that author/illustrator Joe Cepeda, former news anchor Lisa Kimble Edmonston, and a representative from Assemblywoman Jean Fuller's office will also be on our stage.

ABOUT PAM:

Pam Muñoz Ryan (a.k.a.: Pam Bell) is a member of Bakersfield City School District’s Hall of Fame. After graduating from
BHS, she received her B.A. and masters at San Dieg State University. She resides in the San Diego area.

Her 30+ books for young people range from picture books for the very young to middle and young adult novels.  A two-time winner of the Willa Cather Award for writing, her novels have garnered some of the nation’s most prestigious accolades for children’s writing.

Pam Muñoz Ryan has been invited to the White House on three occasions for the National Book Festival and other literary events. She is the National Education Association Author recipient of the Civil and Human Rights Award.

In October of 2010, she will travel as the American author representative to South Korea where she and authors from twenty-six countries will collaborate on an international book on peace for the International Board on Books for Young People.
