The Walking Dead: Book 1 (Days Gone Bye) by Robert Kirkman(Author), Tony Moore (Illustrator)
It’s finally happened: the zombie apocalypse. And wounded officer Chris has just woken up from a coma to find an empty hospital surrounded by the lifeless bodies of the massacred dead…until he reaches the outskirts of town where the dead aren’t quite so lifeless. There isn’t a government or a military; there aren’t any grocery stores or movie theaters or –GASP!- book stores. Just miles and miles of the undead feasting on the bodies of the living. Chris joins forces with a group of survivors, and is reunited with his wife and son, but life is hardly good for the ragtag group of refugees. They must fend off hordes of the undead. And it’s only the beginning.
As it is with most literary phenomenons, you can’t let the movie –or in this case, television show- fool you. Though the beginning of Days Gone Bye starts out a little too much like the rage virus zombie classic 28 Days Later, It delivers an awesome sucker punch of violent zombie goodness, whether you’re a Romero zombie fan or Zombieland beginner. Robert Kirkman presents a powerful opening to his series and I cannot wait to read more.
