Joe Gottlieb

Joe Gottlieb is a local fixture. For over 50 years he has owned and operated Seat Cover City (at 24th & Q Street). A good ol' boy from Brooklyn who made a name for himself in California, Joe is nothing if not a unique character that makes Bakersfield special.

BAKERSFIELD BESTSELLER at Russo's Books (2007) Gottlieb's page-turner The Foxes Amongst Us brings the headlines of terrorism and international intrigue to the San Joaquin Valley. Author Donnalee Huffman states "Buckle up for a high-speed ride. You'll think twice before you take another breath or eat another piece of fruit or even go to the supermarket again. The San Joaquin Valley may never be pristine again."

BAKERSFIELD BESTSELLER at Russo's Books (2000 - 2007) Sub-titled "From Rags to Denim", Bakersfield, CA businessman Joe Gottlieb has become a local icon. After 50+ years as owner of Seat Cover City, Joe (who reports he had never read a book, let alone written one) tells of his growing up in a Brooklyn orphanage, his trek to Bakersfield in a stolen 1955 Buick, and the birth of his business. An accomplished pilot, he also relays many an adventure, including his emergency landing into the Sea of Cortez. Truly a unique "Bakersfield character", Joe Gottlieb and his biography are nothing if they are not memorable. Originally published in 2000, the revised paperback edition was released in 2003.

BAKERSFIELD BESTSELLER at Russo's Books (2002) Joe Gottlieb found writing and selling his first book an experience unto itself, so much so that it is the topic of this, his second book. Perhaps his "sub-title" best sets the tone: "How a computer illiterate dyslexic with Attention Deficit Disorder can write a hilarious, three hundred and forty page book with ninety thousand words in it, get it published and put into most major bookstores and sell thousands of 'em".

BAKERSFIELD BESTSELLER at Russo's Books (2003, 2005) Mr. Moxley and his invisible spaceship could be anywhere, but they've landed in a meadow where Alvin and his friend Peewee are playing. How can the two five-year olds convince their folks that Mr. Moxley is real? How can their folks convince anybody else? You've never encountered a spaceman like Mr. Moxley!

BAKERSFIELD BESTSELLER at Russo's Books (2005) Author Joe Gottlieb turns his wit to adult fiction in this tale of "a simple little murder in Hoboken, New Jersey". The tale of "the perfect murder" that will keep you laughing.
