The Russo Boys One of the disturbing trends of the internet is the concept of "overshare."  Here, for example, we learn of a multi-generational love for baseball and bad haircuts (despite the best efforts of the hats).  Either way, I am very much enjoying this book.

This is one of the books required for a UCLA Extention class I'm taking on writing better advertising.  If you feel strangely compelled to buy a book from your local bookstore, you'll know the course paid off.  The UCLA cheerleaders serve no purpose whatsoever, other than the class may end up teaching me that "sex sells".

Photo of me with my fully-assimulated 2nd generation "Mexican-American" wife.  Her family proves one can still salute ol' glory and still make a pretty mean tamale.  Every Californian needs to read this well-balanced book.

For those new to "the Bakersfield experience", let us initiate you by stating that reading Haslam is a must. An Oildale native, his writings always hearken back to his local roots. Armed with a Ph.D. in English, he has been called "the quintessential California writer" and "the most important writer to emerge from California's Central Valley since Steinbeck". This 30-year retrospective of his work includes both fiction and non-fiction and is a great jumping off point to become initiated in "the Other California."
